Julia Chiappetti

Course BA (Hons) Architecture
Studio/unit brief Realisation 3 (ARC667 Exchange)
Project title Reciprocal Rhythms

Project description This project intertwines a natural landscape with Bournemouth’s urban centre, forging networks between the polychromic systems of this locale. The scheme seeks to reignite the town’s identity through a renewed bond with the land, weaving a collective of creative community stewardship with a site design and management scheme. The Reciprocal Centre’s design showcases locally sourced natural materials including pine sourced on site, rammed chalk and Portland stone. Spaces provided include an auditorium, seminar rooms, study areas and community spaces, all sitting in harmony with surrounding flora and fauna.

Tutor citation Julia has engaged a distinctive artistic and ecological approach to architectural issues, contexts and schemes. They create autonomously, yet regularly bring new work for discussion and testing, and this integrated method has created a wonderful and rigorous architecture. Jennifer Scott

Postgraduate

Dominic Farrow

Course MArch Architecture
Studio/unit brief Thesis Project
Project title Cyber Cauldrons

Project description This project investigates the possibilities of artificial intelligence in design. It uses AI to influence community support and education, as well as to promote digital access. Additionally, the project looks to AI in assisting the remediation of a contaminated industrial site – Holes Bay in Dorset – the site of a now-demolished power station, which has lain dormant for decades and is contaminated with residues. Overall this project seeks to remediate landscapes and communities and resolve environmental and economic issues with recourse to AI.

Tutor citation Dominic’s project was rigorous and inventive, with a social spirit that seeks to find the best of us and our ability to solve the pre-eminent issues of today. The research basis was in-depth, and the visual communication sophisticated. Jennifer Scott
