Project title The Gorse Cognition Exchange
Project description The Gorse Cognition Exchange is a research campus building in Cornwall, whose focus is to promote collaborative learning across creative and scientific domains. The project responds to the gorse on the site, informing the conceptual approach to the building as being like an incision into folds in the landscape. Just as gorse utilises the ground as a foundation from which to grow, rammed earth is used to shape the building’s spaces. The building offers an auditorium surrounded by seminar, learning, gallery, and artists’ workshop spaces, and acts as an assembly of diverse and layered spaces unified by the consideration of natural light qualities and sensory experience.
