Project title Stoke Transport Centre

Project description Stoke-on-Trent  is in a broken state. Its high streets are empty, its transport system non-existent. To ameliorate these issues the project focuses on building a sustainability-focused theme park with an integrated public transport system to repair the bonds between Stoke-on-Trent’s six towns. Stoke Transport Centre consists of two levels: a trolley park and education centre on the upper level and a metro station below. The station serves as a catalyst for small businesses, providing shops to facilitate growth. The building has multiple forms of transport integrated within it, including a train, metro station and monorail.

Tutor citation Jacob’s project demonstrates a mix of fantasy and realism – the perfect combination when designing a theme park. The project also shows thorough understanding of the history of the site and local area, and addresses the current social, economic and political issues within Stoke. Carma Masson

Postgraduate

Tian Ting Tan

Course MArch Architecture
Studio/unit brief Future Narratives (Unit Fifteen)
Project title LLUH: The Gamified City

Project description By 2054, Hull will be partially submerged, due to rising sea levels. In response, this project proposes floating cities that provide a utopian sanctuary for displaced residents. The Gamified City adopts a concept of ‘play to earn’, which combines work and life by interacting with augmented virtual games that make work tasks enjoyable and productive with the help of AI. The city’s automated mobile structure empowers citizens to reorganise the city in accordance with their collective political decisions with the assistance of ‘Hull Angels’, the city’s AI system. The aim of this utopian city is the cultivation of a vibrant, community-based gaming culture.

Tutor citation Tian Ting’s project responds to four great challenges: environmental catastrophe; space for social justice; technological convergence; and human well-being. The project is a highly ambitious, polemic, and thought-provoking proposal. Hyun Jun Park
