Studio/unit brief Design Synthesis
Project title Towards Regenerative Dwelling

Project description Readdressing current extractive construction, material and housing practice, the project proposes an alternative notion of dwelling that focuses on closed loop systems and the wider impact of homes. This is implemented on new-build infill housing for large households in the Wenlock Estate in Hoxton. A variety of spaces are provided that can be freely appropriated by inhabitants. The dwellings have a complex technical system that can respond to create resilience to changing climate and social conditions. The homes sit in a framework of reforming destructive construction practice and economic, ownership and management systems.

Tutor citation Connie’s exploration of regenerative design bridges the technical and performative with a new phenomenology of the home. Responding to the crisis of climate, health and economic decline, it optimistically turns these constraints into a vision of living that is net zero, healthier and more inclusive. Esther Escribano, Fabrizio Matillana
