Studio/unit brief Proposed Headquarters for Age UK
Project title Eldercare Village: A Communal and Supportive Living Space
Project description This new regional headquarters for Age UK in Horncastle is designed to foster community, dignity and wellbeing for the elderly. Central to its design is a ‘linear atrium’, which extends the urban street indoors, promoting social interaction. Warm materials, a structure inspired by the form of a tree and natural elements – gardens and green walls – provide a sense of serenity and rejuvenation. Based on research into the physical and mental needs of its various clients – charity staff, the elderly and local community – spaces adhere to a hierarchy of privacy and provide residences for the elderly as well as new offices for Age UK.
Tutor citation This is a sophisticated response to the challenges of ageing and the wellbeing of the elderly in a changing society by creating a mixed-use building providing offices, residential units and communal spaces.

Studio/unit brief An Urban Response to ‘Shock’ through the Spatial Transformation of a ‘Wasteland’
Project title A Proposed Museum Across the Border of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland
Project description In a world where conflict seems to be increasing, societies are being left behind and forced to deal with wastelands once their home. Culture, history and identity are being erased from cities, leaving only memories. This museum, proposed for the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic, weaves the two sides together, eradicating the artificial concepts of border and threshold. The scheme aims to explore the aftermath of war and create architecture that demonstrates compassion and resilience.
Tutor citation This project addresses critical themes of resilience, identity, and cultural preservation in post-conflict societies. It challenges the notion of physical and psychological barriers, promoting unity and understanding.
