The Architects’ Journal has been a champion of the architectural profession in the UK since 1895. Our mission is to support architects in their day-to-day practice by bringing them up-to-the-minute news, industry insight and critical, highly technical building studies.
Architects love our monthly magazine, which beautifully showcases recently completed buildings specially selected by our editors for publication. In each issue you can also find features on news themes, allowing us to explore topics in depth. Meanwhile the AJ website – which attracts 8 million views a year – is the home of breaking news, and is where our investigative journalism and campaigns shine.
The climate emergency poses significant challenges for architects, as the built environment contributes heavily to carbon emissions. At the AJ we have been championing retrofit for many years, most recently with RetroFirst, which you can read more about here and here. Helping the profession embed sustainability into every part of their practice is a core aim.
Another major focus of our editorial content is showcasing emerging talent. Features such as AJ 40 under 40 and the New Practice series celebrate the next generation of architects – one we hope will be more inclusive and diverse, while still being as innovative and successful.
Beyond our journalism, the AJ hosts a wide range of events each year, ranging from an online conference on fire safety to the 20+ buildings honoured at the AJ Architecture Awards. The AJ100 – an annual ranking of the UK’s biggest architecture practices – is known throughout the profession as a mark of business success.
The AJ is widely respected both among our audience and by the media industry, wining PPA Magazine of the Year in 2018, and Editorial Brand of the Year at the IBP Awards in 2020, 2021 and 2023.
